The European Union is a reference point for CIDOB’s research. It considers the debates over the EU’s internal transformation and its role as an international actor, incorporating the idea that today the concept of sovereignty has overflowed state borders to expand both vertically (via membership of supranational organisations and increasing prominence of sub-state entities) and horizontally (wider range of actors and areas of sovereignty).
