"Workshop: ""The puzzle of Latin American security at the dawn of the 21st century"""
The title of the event is that of the research study presented by Josep Baqués Quesada, Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Barcelona and ex-analyst at the Centre for Analysis and Security Studies at the University of Granada.
"On 20 October, the workshop ""The puzzle of Latin American security at the dawn of the 21st century"" was held in Campana Hall at the CIDOB Foundation, an event that was organised by the Latin America Programme. The presentation of the study included an examination of the history of the process of the institutionalisation of the Latin American security model by analysing the growing proliferation of forums and the links they have with European and US models.
The author also referred to the challenges facing the agenda of Latin American security with respect to the ""new wars"", as well as the evolution of defence spending in the countries of the region. With contributions from the commentator Rafael Martínez, Professor at the University of Barcelona, the two analysts debated with the audience the key points to understanding the existing security scenario from the institutional point of view, placing particular emphasis on the new balance of powers that is taking shape in the region. >> See activity"
