“We need more Europe, not less”

On 21 June 2011, CIDOB and the Catalan Council for the European Movement held jointly a European breakfast meeting with Mr Martin Schulz, President of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament. The event, entitled “Are we losing European Spirit and Ideals? Europe in bad shape: populism, opportunism and narrow-mindedness on the rise”, focused on the lack of solidarity among the EU member states in the face of economical, fiscal, political and social crises. According to Mr Schulz, “we need more Europe, not less”, as the problems of the 21st century won’t be solved “with separation and division”.
