Should the concept of governability be redefined?
The concept of governability deserves to be refined in order for it to be suitably applied to the Latin American region.
"On 8 May, a debate workshop titled ""Incomplete democracy. A retrospective view of Peru's governability following the transition (1980 - 2001)"" was held at the Campana Hall of the CIDOB Foundation. On this occasion, Jans Erik Cavero Cárdenas, Candidate for Doctor of Government and Public Administration at the Complutense University of Madrid, gave a brief introduction to the debate on the application of the concept of governability to the Latin American region, taking as an example Peru's evolution since its transition.
In the speaker's opinion, a state that possesses huge social and economic divisions cannot be considered to be governable, as a result of which he proposed a redefinition of the concept which, in addition to the traditional political factors, also includes social and economic elements, so as to adapt it to the reality of Latin America. Also present as a commentator was David Sancho Royo, Lecturer in Political Science and Administration from the Department of Political and Social Science at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona."
