John Slocum joins CIDOB as Associate Senior Researcher based in Chicago

CIDOB, Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Slocum as Associate Senior Researcher, effective July 2017. Dr. Slocum (PhD Political Science, University of Chicago) is a citizen of the United States and a specialist on global migration and refugee policy, with additional research interests in the field of philanthropy and extensive experience in the former Soviet Union. A consultant to civil society organizations and philanthropic foundations, Dr. Slocum has taught at the University of Oklahoma and worked for eighteen years at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, a private philanthropic foundation based in Chicago. At MacArthur, he directed grantmaking initiatives on international migration, U.S. immigration policy, and Russian higher education. Dr. Slocum has been a Visiting Researcher at CIDOB since September 2016, during which time he has prepared several publications and has played an active role in the activities of the institute. In July, Dr. Slocum will return to Chicago, where he will continue his consulting practice and remain an active member of CIDOB as an Associate Researcher.

With the joining of John Slocum to the team of associate researchers, CIDOB intends to establish a closer interrelation and collaboration with other think tanks and study centers in the United States, expanding its network of contacts and its international influence capacity.
