Javier Solana, Honorary President of CIDOB

"After the Board meeting, the President of CIDOB, Narcís Serra, emphasized the relevance to bring Javier Solana to CIDOB’s organization. Narcís Serra underlined that ""this nomination consolidates the relationship that Javier Solana has maintained with CIDOB during his stage as Secretary General of the European Council and High Representative of the EU for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, supporting many of our activities with his active participation"" among which Serra highlighted War and Peace in the 21st century, the annual high level seminar that, from 2002, brings together in Barcelona politicians, experts and academicians to debate about current international affairs."

He will play a relevant role in the international projection of CIDOB, one of the Spanish’s leading international think-tanks. Javier Solana Madariaga (Madrid, 1942) is professor in Physics and Chair for University Complutense of Madrid. He was member of the Spanish Government (1982-1995) as Minister of Culture, Education and Science; Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson. In 1995 was appointed Secretary General of NATO and in 1999 Secretary General of the European Council and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (PESC) of the European Union, post that he occupied until last December."
