It is not easy to go from a party-based logic to a coalitional approach

CIDOB has organised a debate workshop in which the professors Josep M. Reniu and Jordi Matas analysed the current coalition governments in Latin American presidential systems.

Josep M. Reniu, Permanent Lecturer in Political Science and Administration at the University of Barcelona (UB) claimed that it was not easy for fledgling presidential systems in Latin America to go from a party-based logic to a coalitional approach. Reniu was taking part in the debate workshop Coalition governments in Latin American presidential systems: elements for study of same, held at the CIDOB Foundation. The lecturer from the UB presented the study through an analysis of different definitions of coalition governments, providing criteria to identify each type.

Also participating as workshop commentator was Jordi Matas, Permanent Lecturer in Political Science and Administration at the University of Barcelona, and Vice-Rector of Institutional Relations, Communication and Linguistic Policy at the University of Barcelona.
