CIDOB, in the drawing up of the European Development Report

Anna Ayuso, co-ordinator of the CIDOB Foundation’s Latin America Programme, presented a lecture in Brussels on The Role of Institutions in the Fight against Inequality. This lecture was given in the working meeting among political experts and researchers prior to the drawing up of the European Development Report (EDR). In this meeting, analysis was made of the possibility of building up a consensus in the European scientific community on the contents, objective and process of drafting the report, in addition to favouring exchange among researchers and policy deciders.
The working sessions dealt with Global Risks and Challenges, Inequality and Polarisation and Global Governance, ending with a reflection on the nature and contents of the future report. Inaugurated by Bernard Petit, Deputy Director-General of Development for the European Commission, the reunion also had the participation of the Director-General of Development for the European Commission, Stefano Manservisi, and of the German Minister of Co-operation, Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, whose country holds the Presidency of the Council. In addition, representatives of the delegations of a large number of European states and of developing countries also attended. Along with Ana Ayuso, of the CIDOB Foundation, the Spanish delegation was comprised of Fernando Fernandez-Aguayo, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation; Christian Freres, of the Complutense Institute of International Studies and a member of the Expert Committee for managing the IDR, who also presided over one of the panels; Francesc Granell, professor of Economics at the University of Barcelona; and Stefan Meyer, of the Fundación Relaciones Internacionales y Diálogo Exterior (FRIDE).
