The Board of CIDOB appoints Dr. Jordi Bacaria as Director

"Jordi Bacaria has been appointed at the proposal of the president of CIDOB, Carles A. Gasòliba, during the ordinary meeting of the Board that was held this morning at the headquarters of the institution. His appointment as director of CIDOB is the result of an international competition amongst about eighty candidates. The professor of Economics Jordi Bacaria is as of today the new director of CIDOB, Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, after the highest governing body of the institution approved his appointment this morning. 

The Chairman of the Board, Carles A. Gasòliba, highlighted ""his long academic career, his strong European and international profile and recognition on both sides of the Atlantic that will help to strengthen the international dimension of CIDOB"", qualities that have led him to be chosen from amongst eighty candidates in an international competition organised by CIDOB earlier this year. Jordi Bacaria, currently co-director of the Institute of European Integration Studies in Mexico and editor of the journal ""Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica"", will fill the vacancy left by his predecessor, Jordi Vaquer.Incorporation of new members of the BoardDuring the meeting the Board also agreed the appointment of three new trustees: Sixte Cambra, president of the Port of Barcelona, ​​Miquel Nadal, director of RACC Foundation and Valentí Roqueta, president of the wine company Roqueta Origen. 

These appointments strengthen the enlargement process of the Board that Carles A. Gasòliba initiated when he took office in May 2012, with the aim of incorporating outstanding members of the Catalan civil society and to strengthen the representativeness of the whole of Catalonia.With these three additions, the Board of CIDOB is from today composed of the following:institutions: Generalitat of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, Barcelona County Council, Área Metropolitana de Barcelona, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ministry of Defense and the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia.Individual trustees: Carles A. Gasòliba (president), Javier Solana (honorary president), Salvador Alemany, Josep Antich, Joaquim Boixareu, Sixte Cambra, Francesc Caminal, Antoni Esteve, Miquel Nadal, Francesc Planas, Antoni Pont, Josep Ribera, Narcís Serra and Valentí Roqueta. Biography of Jordi BacariaJordi Bacaria (Reus, 1952). He holds a degree in Economics (1975) and a PhD in Economics (1981) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Since 2000 he has been co-director of the Institute for European Integration Studies in Mexico, an institution that is funded by the European Commission and the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico. He is also director since February 2009 of the journal “Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica"" published in Mexico.He is a member of FEMISE (Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Economic Science Institutes) and evaluator of ANECA (National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain).He has been Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the UAB (1986-1988) and director of the Institute for European Studies (1988-1992, 1994-2000). From 2000 to 2009, he coordinated the Doctoral Program in International Relations and European Integration of the UAB.He is the author of publications on economic integration, Latin America, Mediterranean economy, monetary institutions and public choice."
