On 27 January, the University of Pennsylvania will present in Washington their well-known Index 2015 Global Go To Think Tank, directed by Dr. James G. McGann. This Index ranks global leading think tanks in different categories and is designed to identify centers of excellence in key areas of public policy research and in every region of the world.

On the occasion of this launch and because of our partnership with this initiative, CIDOB has organized a session of discussion on the role of think tanks in our society (similar discussions will also take place in over 80 cities around the world) with participants from different profiles (researchers, journalists, economic actors, civil society, political foundations, among others).

The discussion session is titled: Why Think Tank Matter to Policy Makers and the Public? Jordi Bacaria, director of CIDOB and Carlos Carnero, director of the Fundación Alternativas will initiate the session. We will discuss the following topics:

  • Index classification and used indicators’ assessment.
  • What do we consider a high quality think tank with capacity of influence.
  • What is the importance of think tanks for policy makers and the general public.
