"What’s going on in the world?" The normalisation of the far-right
In this new edition of the 'What’s going on in the world?' series of conferences, we will reflect on the international alliances and the foreign policy of far-right parties, what influence they may have on the future of European integration, to what extent they represent a threat to democracy, and what the response of other democratic forces should be.

Election after election, far-right forces are gaining more and more support, strengthening their presence in various parliaments, setting the national and international agenda with their interventions, and dragging traditional centre-right parties towards more extreme positions. Their upward trend has been consolidated with Donald Trump's return to the White House. Meanwhile, in Europe, Brussels is holding its breath in every election, fearing that citizens will opt for a party opposed to European integration and with potential connections to Russia, as happened in the recent elections in Romania, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
In this new edition of the 'What’s going on in the world?' series of conferences, we will reflect on the international alliances and the foreign policy of far-right parties, what influence they may have on the future of European integration, to what extent they represent a threat to democracy, and what the response of other democratic forces should be. To this end, we will be joined by Zsuzsanna Vegh, Programme Officer at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Camil Ungureanu, Serra Húnter Associate Professor of Political Theory at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Carme Colomina, Senior Researcher at CIDOB. The discussion will be moderated by Héctor Sánchez Margalef, Research Fellow at CIDOB.
The event will be held in English and will be streamed live on CIDOB’s YouTube channel.
