The "caucus" in Iowa will open the election year in the United States. Primary elections will define who will be the next candidate of the Democratic and Republican Parties to undertake the race to the White House. So far, the campaign’s rhetoric and electoral debates have revealed the extent to which foreign policy is a matter of domestic politics in the United States and its influence on the international agenda. Which candidate is best positioned to win the primaries? What foreign policy issues will shape the presidential campaign? How should Europeans interpret this presidential election? To answer these and other questions, the Consulate General of the United States in Barcelona and CIDOB invite you to participate in a meeting between Robert L. Hutchings, diplomat and professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, and Jentlenson Bruce, Professor of Public Policy and Political Science at Duke University, moderated by the former correspondent and current journalist of La Vanguardia in the United States, Xavier Mas de Xaxàs.
