CIDOB, with the support of the Europe for Citizens programme, organises a European Breakfast-Jaime Arias on November 29 that will count on the participation of Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani, Iran’s Ambassador to Syria between 2011 and 2016.
After years of a devastating war in Syria, negotiations to find a political solution to this conflict are intensifying. Russia, Turkey and Iran are key players. Iran is involved both militarily –with significant troops on the ground– and diplomatically through his long-standing alliance with Damascus.
Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani has been Iran’s Ambassador to Cyprus (1991 - 1995), Egypt (2004 – 2005), Lebanon (2005 - 2009) and Syria (2011 - 2016). He was also Iran’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs between 2009 and 2011. He is currently a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) of Iran and a Senior Expert of the Centre for Education and International Studies at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
*H.E. Mr. Seyed Mohammd Kazem Sajjadpour, President of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS), will not be able to join us as his presence is required in the Russian-Turkish talks in his capacity of personal adviser to Foreign Minister Javad Zarif
