CIDOB organises a new European Breakfast-Jaime Arias on June 26 with the participation of Hans Kundnani,Senior Research Fellow in the Europe programme at Chatham House,as a special guest.
For the French president Emmanuel Macron, proposals to deepen integration of the eurozone by creating a eurozone finance minister and budget and turning the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) into a European Monetary Fund were part of a vision for a “Europe qui protege”. However, many in Germany see the eurozone reform proposals as a way to increase control over EU member states. If enacted along these lines, these proposals could be a further step in a troubling transformation of the European Union that goes back to the beginning of the euro crisis.
Before joining Chatham House in 2018, Hans Kundnani was a Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States and research director at the European Council on Foreign Relations. He is also an associate fellow at the Institute for German Studies at Birmingham University. In 2016 he was a Bosch Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington, D.C. He is the author of The Paradox of German Power, which has been translated into German, Italian, Korean and Spanish. He studied German and philosophy at Oxford University and journalism at Columbia University in New York, where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
