The gap between the financial needs required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the resources available is growing ever wider. The 2024 Sustainable Development Financing Report estimates that an additional $4 trillion per year would be needed beyond current allocations to address development and climate change challenges. Where should these resources come from? To bridge this deficit, initiatives are needed to mobilise additional public and private resources, as well as reforms to the International Financial Architecture to make it more effective, equitable, and representative. Ten years after the Addis Ababa Conference on Financing for Development, which preceded the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, the United Nations has convened the 4th Conference, set to take place in Seville in July 2025. The aim of this conference is to reach global agreements to increase available resources and mobilise them efficiently to drive forward the SDGs and commitments to combat climate change and its consequences.
