CIDOB and the representations of the European institutions in Barcelona
The European Parliament’s office in Barcelona, the Representation of the European Commission and CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) organise the third edition of the Sofia Corradi Summer Course on the European Union. The three days will be monographic sessions with theoretical and practical perspectives. The sessions will be divided between an intervention by a keynote speaker from the European Commission or the European Parliament, followed by a dialogue with a journalist; and a roundtable with CIDOB researchers; officials of the European institutions, from either the European Parliament or the European Commission; and independent experts. The aim of this summer course is to provide participants with a complete perspective on the debates and challenges of the European Union in the short, medium and long term, and analytical tools so that they can analyse and understand the European reality and become active members in it. Those who attend the full course will receive a certificate of participation.
The course will address the domestic and international challenges the European Union is facing. On the first day and considering the objectives of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU, there will be a debate on open strategic autonomy, how to articulate it and which areas of action should be the priority, from trade to the economy or security and defence policy. The second session will address the technological profile of the EU trying to respond what kind of technological power the EU wants and has to be against the priorities of other international actors. Technological rights, the digital transition, European regulatory advances, data governance and the fight against misinformation will be discussed in this session. Finally, the last session will deal with the geopolitical dimension of energy, the need for the EU to diversify its energy sources without increasing its vulnerabilities and the costs and opportunities of the energy transition in relation to the war in Ukraine and the green transition.
