Throughout history, Central Asian states have experienced a number of historical changes that have challenged their traditional societies and lifestyles. The most significant challenges occurred as a result of the revolutions of 1917 in Russia, the incorporation of the region into the Soviet Union, and its subsequent independence as a consequence of the collapse of the USSR.
