National Case Study
As a contribution to Sahwa Project: Researching Arab Mediterranean Youth: Towards a New Social Contract, concerning the five countries of the southern Mediterranean area, this report relates to the presentation and interpretation of the results of empirical investigations, both quantitative and qualitative, carried out by our research team.
Guided by the same concerns and the same topics of investigation, the quantitative method allowed us to measure the extent and degree of spread or dispersion of observed phenomena, to this end a questionnaire was used. The second, qualitative method was used in an ethnographic perspective to understand and deepen the description of the complex social processes behind various social phenomena. For this we used five techniques in a complementarity manner: focus group, life-story, narrative interview, focused ethnography and questionnaire.
The main topics are taken from the research questions that served as a guide and pillar of the investigation.
Methodologically and in order to serve the objective of comparability of results, we have structured the analysis in accordance with the clusters identified by the research project: education and socialisation, economy and employment, political participation and engagement as well as culture and values in young people. These four selected clusters were enriched by two other cross-cutting ones: gender and migration.
