On December 10th, Brussels will host the final dissemination event of the Atlantic Future, a 3-year collaborative research project funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme that has been coordinated by CIDOB and developed by a consortium of 13 partners during a period of 36 months, from January 2013 to December 2015.

The event, that will mark the end of the project, will provide new perspectives on the Atlantic space, will present “The Atlas of the Atlantic” -an interactive tool that will map key connections and interdependencies among the four Atlantic regions: Europe, Africa and the Americas; and, finally, the project will present policy recommendations to the European Union on how to redirect its foreign policy towards the region.  For the project, the Atlantic is the cradle of modern globalization, a space where links between peoples, nations and economies started first to transcend their regional contexts on a large scale. Therefore, as globalization enters a new phase and as global challenges such as the economic crises, food security, terrorism, climate change or energy scarcity become more urgent, the states and regions around the Atlantic look at their counterparts across the ocean with renewed interest.
