28th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association.

From 11 to 14 June, three researchers from the CIDOB Foundation – Anna Ayuso, Coordinator of the Latin America Programme, and the researchers Francesc Bayo and Mariana Foglia – participated as discussion panellists at the 28th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association LASA 2009, held in Río de Janeiro.

Francesc Bayo spoke on the discussion panel titled “European Public Policy toward Latin America. A comparative perspective”, in which he dealt with the case of Spain. Meanwhile, Anna Ayuso and Mariana Foglia took part in the panel “Regional Integration and Social Cohesion in EU-Latin American relations”, in which they presented a research study titled “Instruments for dealing with asymmetries in negotiations on association agreements between the European Union and the integration organisations of Latin America”. The Foundation's members took part in the meeting of the Europe-Latin America Section, in which participants debated the topics for the next LASA Congress, to be held in Toronto in 2010.

LASA is an association that brings together experts on the subject of Latin America from all disciplines, with the aim of promoting – throughout the American continent – intellectual debate, research and education on Latin America and the Caribbean.
