CIDOB is pleased to announce the launching of the Uzbekistan Initiative. This research project is jointly developed with the Central Asia Program of the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University. The Uzbekistan Initiative will explore the upcoming challenges and scenarios for Uzbekistan and their impact in the regional and international context.
On 7 December 2012, policy makers, regional experts and journalists gathered in Brussels to participate in the debate Afghanistan and Pakistan after 2014: The role of regional powers, hosted by CIDOB and the Security and Defence Agenda (SDA). The debate was moderated by Dr. Emma Hooper, Project Director of The Sources of Tension in Afghanistan and Pakistan: A Regional Perspective Project and Senior Research Fellow Associate at CIDOB.
On 9 November 2012 CIDOB hosted a delegation of high representatives of Universities and Ministries of Education from the Central Asia countries within the framework of the TEMPUS-ISMU (Institute for Strategic Management of Universities) programme coordinated by the UNESCO Chair of Higher Education Management at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
CIDOB and Casa Asia organize, On May 17 CIDOB a lecture by Ravi Palat, professor at State University of New York at Binghamton and senior visitant researcher at CIDOB. The event is moderated by Jordi Vaquer, director of CIDOB and Rafael Bueno, director of Politics and Society at Casa Asia.
On 1 December, a debate workshop was held at CIDOB titled “Islam and Democracy in Central Asia”, and which brought some of the main Spanish specialists on the region in question together with leading experts on Central Asia from Uzbekistan, Kirgistan and Kazakhstan. The event took place within the framework of the Observatory on Central Asia, a joint project organised by CIDOB, Casa Asia and the Royal Elcano Institute.
Water management in the Central Asia region was the subject of the workshop held at the CIDOB Foundation on 23 January, within the framework of the Observatory on Central Asia, a joint initiative set up by the Elcano Royal Institute, Casa Asia and CIDOB.
An event was held at the CIDOB Foundation to pay tribute to the ambassador and diplomat Delfí Colomé; among those attending were the Minister of Foreign Affairs Miguel Ángel Moratinos and the Spanish Ambassador to Andorra, Eugeni Bregolat.
