Objective

The main challenges that Japan will need to address concern regional and international security, international trade and domestic economy, political relations with other powers in supranational forums and, finally, international projection and recognition of the Japanese culture. In this context, the aim of the seminar will be to analyse:

  • The legal framework that today leads Japan’s defense and foreign affairs policies, as well as its historical roots and the possibility of a reform that could provide the country with new capacities in both areas.
  • Challenges posed by North Korea to the regional security
  • The evolution of Regional economy and the expected impacts of the new Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
  • New paths for domestic policy and economic measures that could improve Japan’s international projection and influence
  • Soft power strategies that can promote positive perceptions of Japan and strengthen its cultural and entertainment industries
