Call to hire a Communications Assistant and a Project Manager

CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) opens a call to hire a Project Manager under the supervision of CIDOB’s Head of Projects Department. Applicants must have experience in the management of all phases of the project cycle (especially with EU funded projects) and know how to work both independently and in a team. This job requires flexibility, communication skills, strong organisational capabilities and a collaborative spirit.


- University degree

- Minimum 5 years of professional experience as project manager

- Strong knowledge of management of all phases of the research projects cycle

- Experience in implement, report and justify European projects

- Experience in preparation and presentation of calls and tenders

- Experience in seeking funding for projects is considered an asset

- Languages: Catalan, Spanish and English (spoken and written) are essential

- Ability to work in a team

- User-level knowledge of Microsoft 365, and advanced Excel skills


- Management of the implementation and reporting of ongoing projects (particularly of programmes Jean Monnet Networks, FAMI and REC among others)

- Fundraising (applying to calls/tenders) for new projects

Conditions of employment

Contract period: from March 2021 to December 2022, with a probationary period of three months; full time.

Candidates from countries outside the European Union must provide a valid residence and working licence, according with the applicable law.

Remuneration:26.000€ - 28.000€ gross annual salary, according to the labour category established in the Collective Agreement of CIDOB and depending on his/her expertise. 

Foreseen starting date: March 2021.

Recruitment process

The selection process follows the spirit of the principles detailed in the European Commission’s General Principles and Requirements of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment.

The evaluation of candidates will have two phases: 1) Preselection of candidates based on their CV and cover letter. The candidates who best fit in the position will be preselected. The selection criteria will value their studies and training, including formal and informal education, proven experience in project management and high level of languages, credited internationally; and 2) Interview stage. The Evaluation Committee will assess the specific competences and knowledge of candidates and their suitability to the project management office and the centre. A score between 0 and 10 will be given to candidates, including strengths and weaknesses.

The Evaluation Committee is the body responsible for presenting a proposal of selection and will be composed of three complementary profiles (two management positions and the area coordinator). The Committee will guarantee gender balance between its members.

The Evaluation Committee will prioritize candidates and nominate the person with a better score, after concluding a joint deliberation process. Based on the proposal, CIDOB’s Direction will award the temporal position to the best ranked candidate.

The results of the selection process will be communicated to the applicants during the week of the 22th of February, 2021.
