Interrogar la actualidad, n.º 19
The aim of this publication is to present a summary of Spain’s first 20 years as a member of the European Union. The analysis is based on the concept of “Europe-isation”, a concept that is the object of growing interest among observers and students of the European integration process. Thus the publication analyses aspects such as Spain's influence in the EU, as well as the latter’s influence on Spain’s institutional system, political processes and public policy. The result reflects the increasing degree of symbiosis that has developed between the two levels over the past two decades, and enables us to better understand the mutual influences.
The book is divided into three parts: the first explores the strategies carried out by the Spanish government to influence the processes of institutional reform and the formation of the European agenda during the three terms of Spain’s Presidency of the European Council. The second part deals with the effects of "Europe-isation" on a series of political structures and processes, from the State’s central institutions to the State comprised of autonomous regions, as well as touching on political parties and public opinion. The third and final part focuses on seven public policies that have had both an internal and an external impact, and have been selected according to their importance for Spain.
