The objective of this book is to analyse, from a range of perspectives, the recent attempts at professionalising public employment in Latin America. For this purpose, the book combines a perspective that groups together the introduction of national models for the professionalisation of public employment (in Mexico, Brasil, Chile, Colombia and countries in Central America and the Caribbean). Another perspective consists of analysing specific dimensions of professionalisation (for example, the design of an upper management model in Chile, and the design of personnel selection models). Finally, the third perspective analyses the professionalisation of specific public institutions (professionalisation of regulatory agencies in several countries in the region).
These three perspectives, framed within an examination of the institutionalisation of public administrations in the region, offer the reader an up-to-date panoramic view of experiences in the professionalisation of public employment in countries in the region.
