dCIDOB 94. Índia

An approach to the reality of a country with the greatest ethnic, religious, linguistic and cultural diversity in the world, which is now emerging as one of the poles of greatest economic and human potential in the 21st century. Framed within a complex political life with an identity-based ideological foundation and characterised by the politization of its castes, in India we find a two-speed economy: one adapted to the process of liberalisation, globalisation and technological change, and a second one which is informal and marginalised. The different analyses in this monograph describe and discuss the keys to the future of India, which has begun an unstoppable diplomatic activity like that of no other country and which, along with China, is emerging on the horizon as one of the principal economic and strategic actors in Asia, assuming a prominent role in a significant displacement of power toward the Asia-Pacific area in the face of American hegemony.
