A study of the origin and evolution of migratory flows from eastern Europe to Spain, with special attention paid to the main groups of residents. After an account of the great changes that occurred in the political and social scenes of the central and eastern European countries following the end of the Soviet-type regimes, the growing economic crisis caused by the complex adaptation to market economies and some difficult political transition processes, marked by incorporation into the European Union, the author contextualises the migratory processes of the countries of origin of communities which are increasingly present in Spanish society. To better understand the idiosyncrasy of these groups, the report devotes a space to the analysis of the main factors (ethnic, economic and political) that have fostered the migratory processes of these societies throughout the 20th century, especially since the Second World War, and which have increased considerably since the 1990s. Finally, the document focuses interest on the profile of the main groups of immigrants from this region (Poles, Romanians, Bulgarians, and Ukrainians) that have settled in Spain.
