With the aim of fostering reflection and the design of specific strategies on the part of professionals in cultural management and cultural policy, this work presents an initial diagnosis of the state of cultural diversity and intercultural policies in Barcelona. The text begins with a brief presentation of the recent demographic and sociological transformation in the metropolis, surveying expressions of cultural diversity and experiences and conflicts of coexistence that the migration phenomenon has intensified, and placing emphasis on its impact on cultural consumption and production. After situating the expectations of the different actors, the voices that deal with diversity and the institutional responses to the issue, the document concludes with some reflections on the causes, alternatives and possible strategies to follow.
Lluís Bonet is a Lecturer in Economics and Director of the Postgraduate Courses in Cultural Management at the University of Barcelona. He is the author of numerous books and articles analysing the cultural sector.
