Núm. 4. Los estudios africanos en España: Balance y perspectivas

Documentos CIDOB Desarrollo y Cooperación; 4

This document deals mainly with the African studies that have been carried out in the field of social sciences in Spain. Since the 1980s, and making full use of the revitalising effects of Spain's political transition, this discipline has gone from being virtually non-existent in universities to a present situation that could be described as rather unstable yet effervescent. After introducing a series of precedents which, though they do not have much to do with social sciences as we understand them today, they do have to do with relations between Africa and Spain, the authors carry out a review of the African studies that have been produced in the university sphere, as well as of the publications and publishing series that have appeared during this period, all the lectures, meetings, conferences and specialist exchanges held on the subject, and the various informative activities that have taken place in tandem within other sectors of Spanish society. Finally, the work presents a reflection on the different actors and perspectives of African studies in Spain.
