Casa Asia, CIDOB and the Royal Elcano Institute have published the 5th edition of the Asia-Pacific Yearbook, a work of reference in the field of research into Asia in Spanish that has been created with the aim of bringing the reader closer to modern-day Asia and to the main events that took place in the region in 2008.

The subjects covered include political and security issues such as the political network that gives shape to India's democracy, the apparent collapse of the State of Pakistan, the Tibetan conflict in China and the Asian dimension of Spain and Europe's foreign policies. The yearbook also includes specific analysis of the main Asian economies, as well as research studies mainly focused on crucial elements such as policies on I+D, consumption and competition, which are growing thanks to energy resources, and Asia’s burgeoning tourism sector. The book also tackles social and cultural issues such as the expansion of consumer values in Asian societies, the modernisation of telecommunications in China and a comparison of European and Asian Islam, as well as many other important issues.

The Yearbook continues to be an important point of reference for relations between Asia and Spain, as well as for Europe and Latin America. Each of the issues is examined by means of specific, in-depth articles that are accompanied by the most recent chronologies, maps and statistics, thereby making this publication into a platform for reflection on the present-day situation, which in turn also represents a tool for generating new academic studies on Asia and the Pacific.
