  • Deniz DEVRIM - Programme Coordinator
    Coordinator of the Europe Programme of the CIDOB Foundation; Graduate in Political Science, Contemporary History and Sociology, Humboldt University Berlin. Formerly, she has worked as a Policy Advisor in the European Parliament on EU external relations and international trade, with a focus on EU enlargement, especially EU-Turkey relations as well as European Neighbourhood Policy with a special focus on regional initiatives in the European neighbourhood. Her areas of work have also been in the field of EU sanctions policy and external energy policy. Her published articles cover the topics of EU Enlargement policies and European Neighbourhood Policy. Her main areas of work are: EU's relations with eastern neighbours, transformation processes in the Western Balkans and conflict resolution in the South Caucasus.
  • Mary Jane O'LEARY - Programme Assistant
    Mary Jane holds a BA in European Studies from the University College of Cork in Ireland and is an International Relations Masters graduate from Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI). There she focused on Political Economy of Development as well as Rational Choice Theory and Political Party behaviour. Mary Jane also holds Diplomas in Journalism and Editing from the VTEC Institute in Ireland together with Press Association. She worked as a journalist in Ireland for three years focusing on world news and national politics. Her main area of work at CIDOB is based on the EU's relations with its eastern neighbours.
  • Francisco ANDRÉS PÉREZ - Programme Assistant. Coordinator of the European Project EU4SEAS
    Doctor of Mathematics, University of Salamanca. Graduate in Journalism, Carlos III University, Madrid. Master's in International Relations, Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI). Director of the European Project EU4SEAS, funded by the EU's 7th Framework Programme. Member of the Observatory of European Foreign Policy, at the University Institute for European Studies. His main areas of academic interest are: the EU's energy policy and the coordination of sub-regional cooperation processes with European Foreign Policy (enlargement, neighbourhood and multilateralism)

  • Jordi VAQUER i FANÉS - Programme Researcher
    Became Director of the CIDOB Foundation in December 2008. Awarded a Doctorate in International Relations from the London School of Economics, he previously worked in the Department of International Affairs at the Government of Catalonia, where he worked in the Department of Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean, before being appointed head of the Office of International Relations. In addition to being Director of the CIDOB Foundation, Dr Vaquer is also the coordinator of EU4Seas, a research programme funded by the European Commission that brings together institutions from eight European states to study the effects of the EU's cooperation policies in and around the Mediterranean, the Caspian, the Baltic and the Black Sea.
  • Carmen CLAUDÍN - Programme Researcher
    Is Director of Programmes at the CIDOB Foundation. She was awarded a Master's in Philosophy from the University of the Sorbonne, Paris, where she studied a postgraduate course in Philosophy and History, specialising in Russian and Soviet history. Before moving to Barcelona, she lived in Moscow and Paris for several years. She is a specialist in the Soviet system and an analyst of the post-Soviet area. She has written one book, various chapters for other books and articles in magazines and newspapers related with this field. Her main areas of interest are: Russia and Ukraine's domestic and foreign policies, the transformation of post-Soviet society and reform processes in the ex-USSR countries.
  • Laia MESTRES - Programme Researcher
    Analyst in the CIDOB Foundation's Presidential Cabinet. A graduate in Political Science and Administration from Pompeu Fabra University, she is currently writing her doctoral thesis on bilateralism as a power strategy within the European Union, through the case study of Spain's relations with the EU's larger states. She is a member of the Observatory of European Foreign Policy and a lecturer at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her main areas of interest are Spain's foreign policy and the European Union's security and defence policies. She is currently coordinating the Spain-France Civil Dialogue Forum, as part of her work within the Presidential Cabinet.
  • Valeriya SHAMRAY - Programme Assistant
    Valeriya Shamray is the Open Society Foundation (OSF) scholar at Maastricht University. As part of her OSF grant Valeriya is doing her internship at the CIDOB Europe Programme. She holds an MA in European Studies from Maastricht University and an MA in International Law from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine). Previously, she worked in the Training Unit of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine based in Odessa (Ukraine). Together with the EU experts she was responsible for organization and training sessions and international seminars on the topics related to EU standards and best practices in border management and customs issues for Ukrainian and Moldovan law enforcement agencies. Her professional and academic interests include European Neighborhood Policy, democratization and transformation of the post-soviet states and the perspective of European integration of Ukraine.
