[01.2009] Plan Africa 2009-2012 tackles the multiple aspects involved in Spain’s external action in Africa, with particular emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa, and with the fight against poverty as one of the Plan’s specific objectives.

[08.09.09] The report contains a detailed profile of each of the 133 economies included in the study, with a summary of the general situation of the ranking, as well as the most important competitive advantages and disadvantages of each country. It also includes an extensive section of tables of data, with the world lists of more than 110 indicators.

Most countries have returned to growth in the final quarter of 2009, which will be positive during the course of 2010. The negative note is the great increase in deficit, owing to the massive injection of public funds to revive the economies.

According to the report, one important challenge for Africa is to strengthen regional integration, which would enable the countries to tackle the prolonged structural weakness of their economies.

The report also claims that mitigating climate change does not contradict development objectives and offers other opportunities for structural change.

The 2009 the United Nations forecast estimates that the growth of the world's GDP will barely reach 1%, a figure that represents a sharp deceleration compared to previous years.
[15.09.08] The report reveals that following two decades of trade liberalisation, Africa's economies have got rid of most of the barriers that limited the continent's overseas trade. However, not as much progress has been made as was expected, and the results are still quite far off from the increases that have been achieved by other emerging regions.

Furthermore, these efforts will help to provide a necessary stability and represent the first steps towards emerging from poverty.

[04.09.2008] The report highlights the fact that in spite of the progress made recently, many of the poorest developing countries continue to depend on foreign capital, not only to achieve their MDGs but also to increase domestic spending with the aim of boosting growth, enabling social spending and the implementation of structural changes.
[01.07.08] The serious instability caused by price increases, inequality and uncertainty on the job market is making the economy an important factor in world security. The poorest countries are suffering more acutely from a lack of security, while optimism is diminishing over emerging economies' capacity for growth.
