[16.10.08] In light of the international economic and finance crisis, the Council expressed its determination to act in a concerted, global manner to protect the European finance system and its depositors. Among the issues covered were the situation in Georgia, the agreement with Russia on said situation and the EU's relations with its eastern neighbours.

The programme’s priorities are: the time-frame for bringing the Treaty of Lisbon into effect, re-launching the Lisbon Strategy, making collective progress in the areas of energy and the climate, strengthening the European perspective on the Balkans and promoting intercultural dialogue.
