Migrations Programme - [12/14/2007]

CIDOB participates in a film-forum in Pamplona on human rights and immigration

Gemma Pinyol, Coordinator of the CIDOB Foundation's Migrations Programme, participated in a film-forum in Pamplona on human rights and immigration, as part of the 3rd Human Rights and Immigration Week. Organised by IPES (Institute for the Promotion of Social Studies) and Amnesty International, the event began with the showing of the film Cuando naces… ya no puedes esconderte (When you are born... you cannot hide yourself any longer) by the Italian director Marco Tulio Giordana.

At the end of the film showing, Pinyol took part in a debate that also featured Ruth Ferrero, Lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid. During the discussion, the speakers focused on some of the main dynamics of present-day migration flows, particularly in Spanish and European settings. The participators also discussed the main challenges for the integration policies of welcoming countries.

As part of the same week-long event, Pinyol and Ferrero also took part in a discussion entitled Migrations and human rights: conflict, integration, coexistence? The speakers examined the different models of migration management existing in Europe and discussed the need to reformulate some of the premises on which welcoming societies are based in order to successfully deal with the challenge of immigration.
