CIDOB Foundation - [12/20/2007]
Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, has presented the fourth edition of the Mediterranean yearbook in Madrid. Med. 2007 (the year 2006 in the Euro-Mediterranean space) is a publication produced by the CIDOB Foundation in conjunction with the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed). The event also featured the participation of José Luis González Vallvé, Director of the European Commission's Representation in Spain, Josep Ribera, Director of the CIDOB Foundation and Senén Florensa, Director General ofIEMed.
The presentation of the yearbook in Madrid follows the previous such events in Brussels and Lisbon. Speaking in Brussels, at the seat of the European Parliament, Benita Ferrera Waldner, the EU Commissioner for External Relations, declared that the yearbook Med. 2007 (the year 2006 in the Euro-Mediterranean space) is an outstanding example of Spain's contribution to the Barcelona process. The presentation also featured the participation of Euro MP Raimon Obiols and Senén Florensa, Director General of IEMed.
The first presentation of the publication Med. 2007 (the year 2006 in the Euro-Mediterranean space) was held in Lisbon, at the Belém Cultural Centre, within the framework of the annual EuroMeSCo conference. Senén Florensa, Director General of IEMed, declared that the publication is becoming an increasingly important work of reference, and added that in future it will also be published in Arabic.
The 2007 edition of the yearbook analyses some of the most important events of the year in the Euro-Mediterranean space, including the war in Lebanon, African migrations and the impact of the rising price of oil. The yearbook also includes a wide ranging dossier on the knowledge society and social modernisation, as well as an extensive selection of complementary data and information. While the book is published every year in Spanish, English and French, this year it is also available in Catalan.
The Mediterranean yearbook Med.2007 examines the key political, economic, social and cultural aspects that comprise the area and agenda of the Mediterranean. It offers analysis and reflection in the form of articles by leading analysts, as well as complete, updated statistics on all the Mediterranean countries.
Preparations are in progress for a fourth and final presentation of the publication in Barcelona, though no date for the event has yet been confirmed.
