Migrations Programme - [10/28/2009]

Human rights and irregular immigration in the European Union

On 23 October, Gemma Pinyol, Coordinator of CIDOB's Migrations Programme, took part in the international seminar "Human Rights, immigrants in an irregular situation and the European Union", organised by the University of Zaragoza. The seminar, which was chaired by Ángel Chueca, brought together experts, academics and practitioners who debated the (absence of) protection of the fundamental rights of irregular immigrants in different countries in the European Union, and highlighted the different responses that the Member States and the EU itself have been drafting to manage this phenomenon. Gemma Pinyol participated in the round table discussion "European Union and irregular immigration: Theory and Practice" with an address titled "The challenge of managing irregular immigration in the European Union: Regularisation processes and Human Rights".
