Migrations - [11/03/2008]

CIDOB Foundation attends the 13th International Metropolis Conference

The Migrations Programme of the CIDOB Foundation has taken part in the 13th International Metropolis conference, which was held in Bonn between 27 and 31 October. Joaquín Arango and Gemma Pinyol organised the debate workshop “Enlarging Opportunities for Legal Migration: The European Union in a Comparative Perspective”. The aim of the workshop was to debate the European Commission's recent proposals, some of which have been incorporated into the European Pact on Immigration and Asylum, concerning the introduction of new formulas for managing regular immigration in Member Countries. Proposals such as circular migration and "blue cards" were debated by Christine Adam (OIM), Joaquín Arango (Complutense University, Madrid), Axel Kreienbrink (Bundestamt für Migration und Flücthlinge) and Laura Zanfrini (Fondazione ISMU).

With more than 100 debate workshops and some 800 participants, the Metropolis network’s 13th International Conference brought experts, academics and managers of the migration phenomenon to the old German capital with the aim of fostering debate and reflection under the generic title of "Mobility, Integration and Development in a Globalised World".
