Num. 2. L’educació intercultural a Catalunya: aproximació a la situació actual. El punt de vista dels professionals

The objective of this report is to offer a picture of the current situation of intercultural education in Catalonia in order to be able to identify the main deficiencies in the theoretical framework and in the models and methodologies of intervention in the area of intercultural co-existence in educational contexts. Through a series of interviews with people of different professional and territorial profiles, with the aim of gathering all of the diversity of perspectives possible, the conceptual framework in which this study is set goes beyond the formal school environment, considering other fundamental elements to be such aspects as education outside of school, actions and policies of different actors in the local environment, and the important role played by the media in this terrain. In the synthesis of his analysis, the author points out that “in Catalonia, intercultural ideas are confused with issues relating to immigration, when in reality, cultural diversity is not limited to immigration, nor is education limited to schools” and he focusses on the current situation of intercultural discourse, the needs most shared among the professionals interviewed and the trends that are emerging for the future in the construction of an intercultural discourse and of intercultural educational practices.
