From his experience as a diplomat in Latin America and Asia, Manuel Montobbio situates the current state of Spanish – Latin American – Asian relations, reviewing the path taken in the framework of this triangle in order to contribute to developing a paradigm of triangulation. This contribution is especially opportune now that the 2005-2008 version of the Asia Pacific Plan is being elaborated, a plan which gives special relevance to this strategy , founded on a geometry full of possibilities. Focusing part of his analysis on the description of the opportunities that this model presents in the economic, political and cultural spheres, the author also points out the need to promote this strategy in the field of cooperation for development, the mass media and the possibilities offered by the virtual world through internet. From this perspective, this paper aims tocontribute initiatives for elaborating itineraries or roadmaps that can consolidate this process and increase the practical benefits of the privileged situation Spain finds itself in, between Latin America, with which it has very well-consolidated relations, and Asia, a continent on which Spain has a world of relations to explore.
Manuel Montobbio, Diplomat, with a Ph.D. in Political Science. Currently he is an Ambassador on a Special Mission in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation
