[16.10.08] The Council for the European Union adopted the document drafted by the Justice and Home Affairs Council to establish a common policy on immigration and asylum. This document will guide the work programme that the European Commission is due to propose in May 2009 and which the Swedish presidency will be responsible for finalising.
[03.05.07] Over the past decade, migration policies have burst onto the European agenda, from the EU to its member countries. This publication has devoted an issue exclusively to this topic, in which it brings together the analyses of several examples that allow for comparative approach.
An address by Danilo Martucelli, Researcher at CNRS (Francia) and at GRACC, University of Lille-3, who carried out an analysis using four scenarios: the political situation, the incident, the crisis and the emergency and, finally, the structural context through which we can understand what took place.
An address by Carles Campuzano, MP for the Catalan Parliamentary Group in the Spanish Chamber of Deputies, which places particular emphasis on the search for a collective, balanced application of integration policies, management of cultural diversity, acceptance of shared values and a continued social mobility.
[08.04.08] In the author's opinion, the distinction between the internal and external management of migration flows has lost its validity. As a consequence, a more effective joint European Union policy on migration would require a more coordinated approach within the foreign policies and development policies of each of the Member States.

[02.12.08] The social and economic challenges of globalisation have increased the mobility of people in search of work. At present there are more than 200 million international emigrants in the world, and most countries are simultaneously origins and destinations of immigration. The challenge consists of regulating this international labour market in order to guarantee human security.
[10.09.08] In addition to the trends in migration flows, this volume will carry out a comparative examination of the situation of immigrants in different labour markets, as well as policies of recruitment and employment. Other issues analysed include the differences in salary compared to autochthonous workers and return policies.
[04.06.08] This report on people trafficking, now in its eighth year of publication and featuring data on 170 countries, details the efforts made by each country to uncover and prosecute the traffickers, as well as protecting the victims, with the shared objective of wiping out this form of crime.
[19.03.08] In 2007, the countries that received the most funds through remittances from emigrants were India, China, Mexico and the Philippines. Though South-to-South migration almost equals South-to-North migration, the rich countries continue to be the main sources of remittances. The report contains data on migration statistics and flows recorded on remittances in 194 countries.
[15.10.07] This index assesses the policies aimed at the integration of immigrants in 25 EU member states and in three extra-community countries. More than 100 indicators were used in the creation of the index, which covers six main areas: access to the job market; family resettlement; long-term residence; access to nationality; antidiscrimination policies and political participation.
[25.06.07] Migration flows are continuing to grow, owing to family reunifications and the increase in the demand for labour in OECD countries. The report also stresses the need for policies to improve integration and to make better use of immigrants’ knowledge and skills.
[10.05.07] This manual compiles a set of good practices and learning experiences from the actions of different political and professional agents, with the objective of providing a tool that facilitates the process of integration of immigrants in the European Union.
[04.04.07] With the experience of the International Organization for Migration, which has been implementing activities and aid for the victims of human trafficking for more than 13 years, this material has been produced, which brings together a manual of practices in a systematised way.
