The Programme aims to be a platform for elaborating a possible framework of reference beginning with joint reflection among experts from different countries, with the objective of understanding intercultural dynamics in their facet as a process, situating the value of the concepts within the new transnational context.
Begun in 1990 as the Intercultural Communication Space (ECI), it was consolidated as a platform for fostering the exchange of ideas through national and international seminars, conferences and publications.
Its initial collaborations with universities from different countries were constituted in the RICEI network (International Network for Intercultural Studies), and it gave impulse to the creation of the Intercultural Dynamics Programme in 1995. Reflection in the international sphere is developed through the Permanent International Seminar (pdf 107kB) , which, through proposals from its international collaborators, proposes different encounters in Barcelona and in other countries. Currently, the Programme carries out, in a parallel way, its own initiatives, which are designed with local needs in mind.
The objectives of the Programme are to:
a. Favour the understanding of intercultural dynamics beginning with what is produced among, with and on each of the participants in an interaction.
b. Reinterpret contexts, depending on the challenges that recognition and coexistence represent.
c. Co-produce keys for understanding codes of interaction and to transversalise the socio-cultural references present in society
d. Facilitate the connection between theoretical reflection and practice to provide operational and clarifying indicators of the current challenges.
The proposals are worked on, following a plan that goes from theory (ideas/concepts analysed by the academic sector) to practice (applied interculturality), which is specified in the professional sector, using reflection on intercultural policies and practices inherent in the sociopolitical sector as a nexus of union.
