Migrations Programme - [03/21/2007]
Gemma Pinyol, co-ordinator of the Migrations Programme of the CIDOB Foundation, presented the communication, The Challenge of Irregular Immigration: The Regularisation Processes in Europe, in the 5th Congress on Immigration in Spain, which was held on March 21- 24 in Valencia.
The presentation, which Ruth Ferrero is also the author of, summarises different regularisation processes that were carried out in Europe between 1986 and 2005. In addition to indicating the scenes of regularisations in Europe, this communication also highlights the importance that the process carried out in Spain in 2005 had in the European context. This regularisation sparked off an intense debate among the member states, which became concrete in the implementation of a mutual information mechanism on issues of immigration and asylum.
Organised by the University of Valencia, the University-Business Foundation of Valencia and the Centre for Studies on the Social Integration and Training of Immigrants, the 5th Congress was entitled Migrations and Human Development, and numerous Spanish experts participated in it.
