Mediterranean Programme - [04/12/2007]

CIDOB supports research on Turkey in Spain

The Mediterranean Programme of the CIDOB Foundation participated in A View of Turkey from Spain, a seminar which brought together an important number of researchers from Spanish centres who specialise in the Ottoman country. In addition to the collaboration of the CIDOB Foundation, the seminar, which was organised by the Emerging Research Group on Turkey at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), also received support from the Centre for International and Intercultural Studies at the UAB and the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed).

This seminar was characterised by its multidisciplinary approach, dealing with topics in history, economics, energy, migration, domestic policy and foreign policy. Topics such as political Islam and Turkey’s process of accession to the EU were analysed in a transversal way among the participants in different debate sessions.

With its participation and support for the work carried out by the Emerging Research Group on Turkey at the UAB, the CIDOB Foundation renews its commitment to fostering knowledge about a country that it considers strategic, both due to its relations with the European Union and due to its role in the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
