Mediterranean Programme - [11/26/2007]
The Cuaderno de Estrategia no. 137, a publication jointly produced by the CIDOB Foundation, has been presented at the office of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, in Madrid. The volume, entitled Iran, an emerging power in the Middle East. Implications for the stability of the Mediterranean, was coordinated by Narcís Serra, Director of the CIDOB Foundation.
During the presentation, the speakers stressed that multilateral solutions should be employed to face the challenges that Iran presents in terms of security in the Mediterranean and for the world in general.
Cuaderno de Estrategia no. 137 claims that Iran is becoming an increasingly important power in the Mediterranean, a fact that is demonstrated by the country's connections with Hamas and Hezbollah.
Co-organised by the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies (IEEE) and the CIDOB Foundation, the event was attended by Narcís Serra, in addition to Luis Cuesta, Secretary General for Defence Policy, Celia Abenza, Director General of Institutional Relations, of the Ministry of Defence, Admiral Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes, Director of the IEEE and Fred Halliday, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and at the Barcelona Institute for International Studies.
