Mediterranean Programme - [11/11/2006]

CIDOB, in the 2nd Security and Defence Congress in Granada

Eduard Soler, Co-ordinator of the CIDOB Foundation’s Mediterranean Programme, highlighted “ a certain Europeanisation of Turkey in the Arab-Israeli conflict”, in the 2nd International Congress on Security and Defence, which was held at the Euro-Arab Foundation in Granada.

Soler participated in this conference organised by the Centre for Security Analysis Studies, in which, in addition to analysing the context of Turkey, those who attended also debated the fight against terrorism, the role of women in armed conflicts and security in the Mediterranean. >> see programme. (pdf 687kB)

The Co-ordinator of the Mediterranean Programme participated in the panel session devoted to Turkey, with an explanation of the convergences and divergences between Turkish and European Union policy toward the Middle East. In his presentation, Soler also indicated that “ since 2004, Turkey has been involved in a more determined way in the Barcelona Process”.

In that same panel session, Carmen Rodríguez and Antonio Ávalos, both from the Autonomous University of Madrid, analysed other important aspects, such as Turkey’s relations with the United States and the transformation of the Ottoman Empire into the Republic of Turkey.
