Talk by the Prime Minister: "in Spain's interest: a committed foreign policy"

The Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero gave a talk in which he set down the central points of Spain's foreign policy in the coming term of office.

Speaking at the Prado Museum, accompanied by Kofi Annan, the ex-Secretary General of United Nations and numerous ambassadors, the Prime Minister championed a foreign policy committed to pacifist values and internationalism, a policy appropriate for a progressive government, and linked with the policy that has been developed since Spain's transition to democracy.

The Prime Minister also announced three official visits to West Africa, three to Asia and one to the Middle East.

The talk revolved around the following main points: the fight against poverty, building peace, the organised management of migrations, climate change and energy, the economy, Europe, trans-Atlantic relations, Africa, Asia, the Mediterranean and the Arab world, Ibero-America, human rights and the death penalty.
