The CIDOB Foundation wants to foster in-depth debate on issues of significance, topicality and with broad repercussions in the Mediterranean among international experts and to contribute to generating expert opinion. It also aims, at the same time, to contribute to stimulating the production, dissemination and publication of research and to organise stable areas of research and consolidate international collaboration networks among experts and specialised institutions.
The study and monitoring of the Barcelona Process is one of the main priorities of the Mediterranean Programme. In the Programme, analysis is made of the internal dynamics of the Partnership, the role of its main actors and the future scenarios that allow for its revitalisation.
In this area of research, analysis is made of the great challenges for the Mediterranean as a whole and for each of the parts that comprise it. It deals with aspects of “hard” security, like weapons of mass destruction, and “soft” security, like energy issues.
The processes of democratisation and the progress made toward regimes of “supervised freedoms” or with greater political pluralism have come up against obstacles of different types in this region and in the Arab world as a whole.
