Migrations Programme - [05/23/2008]

The MIPEX-INDEX is a useful instrument for discovering the gulf between good intentions and the reality of integration policies

Gemma Pinyol, Coordinator of the Migrations Programme at the CIDOB Foundation, took part in the round table on "Immigration and participation in local policies" as part of the 10th International Participation Conference held on 3 April and organised by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Diputació de Barcelona and the Department of Citizen Participation at the Generalitat of Catalonia.

She also presented the project MIPEX-Immigrants Integration Policies Index, highlighting its utility as an instrument that reveals the "gap of good intentions" between group practices and the real policies of EU countries with respect to integration. The round table, which was held in the Sala d'Actes of the Political and Sociology Science faculty of the UAB, was chaired by Joaquím Brugué, and featured the participation of Antoni Morral, Mayor of Cerdanyola; Josep Palacios, Commissioner for the New Citizenship Plan in Mataró; Teresa Llorens, Coordinator of the Department of Equality and Citizenship of the Diputació de Barcelona and Fátima Ahmed of the Associació Ibn Batuta.
