Scholarship for Master’s Studies at the London School of Economics

the CIDOB Foundation and the Caixa Catalunya Foundation these entities annually grant two scholarships to holders of Bachelor’s degrees or higher degrees to broaden their studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The level of studies they must carry out is that of postgraduate, focusing on earning a Master’s (MSC) degree. The scholarship-winners must enrol in the LSE during the 2008-2009 academic year, foreseeably during the months of September or October 2008.

Conditions for applying

1.- The candidates must be have a Bachelor’s degree from any Catalan university. They could also be students in their last year of a Bachelor’s degree at one of these universities.

2.- They must have been accepted into the Master’s programme at the LSE.

Registering at the LSE

1.- Applicants for this scholarship must, first of all, fulfil the normal conditions at the LSE for admission into its Master’s courses, and they have to carry out the registration process for these courses directly with the LSE.

2.- The application form for the LSE must be requested from to pursue the Master programme the LSE Admissions Office, either by mail (LSE. Graduate Admissions Office. Houghton Street. London WC2A 2AE) or through its web site ( www.lse.ac.uk ). This form and accompanying documentation must be sent in before the deadline established by the LSE.

Scholarship application

1.- The scholarship application form (CIDOB/Caixa Catalunya Scholarship 2008/09) must be requested from the Financial Support Office at the LSE, through its web page. Once it has been filled out, it must be sent to the following address: Financial Support Office, LSE, Houghton Street. London WC2A 2AE, so that the interested person can be considered as a candidate for this scholarship.

2.- Another essential requirement is that the form appended to the scholarship application and the candidate’s curriculum vitae be sent to the CIDOB Foundation (Elisabets, 12. 08001 Barcelona. E-mail: bequesLSE@cidob.org ).

3.- The deadline for the scholarship application is 18 April 2008.

Awarding of scholarships

1.- A Selection Committee named by the CIDOB and Caixa Catalunya Foundations, in which the LSE Alumni Association of Catalonia (ALSEC) will be represented, will select two scholarship winners from among the candidates admitted by the LSE.

2.- Applicants for the scholarship promise to accept the Selection Committee’s decision, which under no circumstances will be reversed. The CIDOB Foundation and Caixa Catalunya Foundation will notify the successful candidates.

3.- The CIDOB / Caixa Catalunya Foundations may organise an event for awarding the scholarships, which the winners commit themselves to attend.

Value and duration of the scholarship

1.- These scholarships amount to 20,000 € for each student, plus the tuition for the programme. This quantity, after the deduction of taxes corresponding to Spanish fiscal legislation, will be administered and paid out by the LSE.

2.- The scholarships have the aim of the recipients obtaining the level of Master’s in a maximum time of twelve months, depending on the length of the programme.

Obligations of the scholarship winners

1.- To carry out the studies anticipated in accordance with the application presented.

2.- When the school year ends, to send the results of their studies, duly accredited by the LSE, to the CIDOB Foundation.
