The aim of the seminar is to learn from experiences in the management of immigration, integration and diversity, and to discuss the framework of authority in such issues, taking as an example Canada, a country with a long, successful tradition of immigration management. Thus the seminar will feature the participation of internationally renowned experts from all over Canada who will carry out an in-depth examination of different key thematic areas, such as the framework of authority with respect to immigration and diversity, the management of flows, access to the labour market, coexistence and civic and socio-cultural integration, and management of the linguistic policy. At the present time in which the new National Agreement for Immigration in Catalonia is being designed and introduced, the experience and transatlantic dialogue with a federal country with a long tradition of immigration such as Canada is of particular importance.

Using a format that represents an attempt to avoid a superficial examination of the issues, and which provides sufficient space for dialogue and discussion, the Forum’s ultimate aim is to help to establish points of connection and synergy between the academic field and the political or technical spheres, and to produce specific information that can be used to improve the specific policies on the management of immigration and diversity in Catalonia and Spain.

Le Forum vise à tirer des leçons à partir des expériences en matière de gestion de l'immigration et la diversité au Canada, un des pays du monde ayant une plus longue tradition d’immigration et le plus grand succès dans sa gestion. Pour cela, le Forum comptera avec la participation d’experts de prestige international du Canada pour adresser à fond différents domaines thématiques clés, tels que le cadre de compétences en matière d'immigration et diversité, la gestion de flux, l'insertion au monde du travail, la cohabitation et l'intégration civique et socioculturelle, ou la gestion de la politique linguistique et le pluralisme linguistique. Au moment actuel, lors de la conception et l'application du nouveau Pacte national pour l'immigration en Catalogne, l'expérience et le dialogue transatlantique avec un des pays ayant une plus longue tradition en matière de gestion de l’immigration et la diversité, comme le Canada, sont particulièrement pertinents.

Avec un format qui vise à éviter le traitement superficiel des thèmes, et qui accorde un espace important au dialogue et à la discussion, l'objectif final du Forum est de contribuer à établir des ponts de connexion et des synergies entre le domaine académique et le domaine politique ou technique, ainsi que produire des informations spécifiques qui puissent être utiles pour améliorer les politiques concrètes de gestion de l’immigration et la diversité en Catalogne et en Espagne.
